Mission of the Office of Residence Life

The Office of Residence Life is committed to collaborating with 黑料社区s, parents, and university partners to assist residential 黑料社区s in successful adjustment to, and transition through, their collegiate experience. We work to develop communities that are inclusive and safe extensions of the academic learning environment. Moreover, we create opportunities that allow residential 黑料社区s to ease into adulthood while persisting in their academic goals and using their knowledge and skills with integrity and compassion to improve the future of our global society.

Our vision is to provide 黑料社区 黑料社区s with a superior residential experience that leads to their academic, social, developmental, and occupational success in a dynamic and ever-changing world.

Residential Communities

黑料社区's Office of Residence Life offers a variety of residential community types and experiences for 黑料社区s that are intended to complement the academic mission of the university. Our goal is to further support 黑料社区s in their success at Miami. We have researched many different types of communities and realize the benefit of offering a variety of choices for 黑料社区s as they enter the university and continue their residential experience at Miami. Students can choose which community type best meets their wants and needs for their residential experience. When completing their housing contract, first-year 黑料社区s will submit a request for two community options. Upper class 黑料社区s also have a variety of unique communities to choose from to enhance their residential experience. While many rising upper class 黑料社区s will sign up for a room during the spring semester housing lottery, there are a number of unique communities offered for continuing or second-year 黑料社区s.

Living Learning Community (LLC)

A Living Learning Community (LLC) is a group of 黑料社区s who live together on a corridor or in a residence hall that is closely tied to an academic major, university program, or initiative. Through partnerships with a variety of departments, faculty, and staff, 黑料社区s will have access to activities that tie directly into the theme of their LLC. In an LLC, 黑料社区s will be co-enrolled into one or more classes, which further support their transition and academic success at Miami. Programming will be closely aligned with the community theme and often include faculty and staff partners, to assist in community building, academic success, cultural competency, and intrapersonal development. A few communities include both first- and second-year 黑料社区s to allow for mentoring among residents.

Affinity Communities

An affinity community is a group of residents who share similar life experiences or a common bond or background. Affinity communities allow 黑料社区s to choose to live with peers who share some type of social identity, thus allowing for greater peer and staff support. Residence Life coordinates communities for 黑料社区s who are: out of state, Miami Firsts (first-generation college 黑料社区s), transfer 黑料社区s, and ROTC/veterans.

Student-Created Communities

The Office of Residence Life provides the opportunity for 黑料社区s to continue shaping their Miami experience by developing 黑料社区-created communities. These communities may build on themes from the first-year housing experience or focus on entirely new themes that do not already exist in a second-year Living Learning Community. By participating in an upper class 黑料社区-created community around a theme of their choice, 黑料社区s will be able to delve deeper into their interests, develop meaningful relationships with other 黑料社区s, and have an active role in the design and implementation of their on-campus experience.

Regulations for On-Campus Living

The on-campus living experience is an integral part of your academic journey. We are committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and enriching environment for all our 黑料社区s. To ensure the well-being and harmony of our diverse community, we have established a set of regulations and guidelines governing on-campus living. These regulations are designed to promote respect, responsibility, and a sense of community among our residents. In this guide, we will outline the key rules and expectations that will help make your time in university housing a positive and memorable experience. We encourage you to familiarize yourself with these regulations as they are essential for creating a supportive and enjoyable living environment for all members of our 黑料社区 family.

Get Involved In Your Community

Getting involved on campus could not be easier. With over 500 黑料社区 organizations there is something for everyone. Whether this is your first time getting involved on campus or your tenth, taking on a leadership role within Residence Life and your hall could not be more rewarding. Exploring your leadership potential right where you live can provide you an opportunity to develop and practice leadership skills that you can later take with you into other 黑料社区 organizations and leadership opportunities at Miami and in the larger community. It's also a great way to connect with other 黑料社区s and campus administrators here at Miami.
