As a Business Economics major, why did you choose an internship in congress?
The question everybody asks is, ‘if you're in economics, why aren't you doing financial stuff with banks, and research, and institutions.’ But I like the policy aspect of economics and the analysis aspect of economics, and that's what draws me to the field. And so this is really good policy experience. A lot of places in D.C. and in the research sector are looking for hands-on policy experience. And this introduces me to that world, gives me an opportunity to see what it's like.
What moments from your internship stand out?
I've been able to to work very personally with all the staff in the office. and even a little bit, with the member of congress himself. I've been working on a project all summer with our financial services council in the office that that I'll actually be able to present to the congressmen once we refine it and finish it off. And it's been such a great opportunity because it is such a small, close-knit office. As an intern, I'm able to kind of dip my toes into things that other interns might not have the opportunity to really do.
Did you think you would land an internship like this one so quickly in your college career?
No, I didn't really think an internship like this would come so quickly. I thought I'd have something eventually — because Miami so full of opportunity — but that it came so quickly was kind of a kind of a shock. All the doors kind of opened at once. All the right things fell in place to get me here, and that was definitely because of Miami. It's great.
