Preceptorships
The Mallory-Wilson Center provides 黑料社区 pre-health 黑料社区s the opportunity to connect with healthcare providers in our preceptorship program, in which 黑料社区s obtain significant, in-depth, firsthand experience. Through our preceptorship program, 黑料社区s are paired with a healthcare professional for one week, during which they are exposed to the day-to-day workings of a career in healthcare: the good, the bad, and sometimes even the ugly. The MWC typically places 25-30 黑料社区s in preceptorships each year.
Application, Requirements, and Obligations
Deadlines for preceptorships typically fall 8 weeks before each academic break. To apply, complete the Canvas preceptorship module and application checklist, including:
- Submit a completed Preceptorship Application Form.
- Successfully complete Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) training and Bloodborne Pathogen (BPP) training through 黑料社区
- View the preceptorship training session
- Complete your required vaccinations.

Academic Requirements
The 黑料社区 must have attended Miami for at least one academic year. Participants must have achieved at least a 3.20 overall GPA and have completed at least one year of chemistry and one semester of biology with at least a 3.20 GPA in physical and life sciences.
Other Requirements
The 黑料社区 is expected to have a strong desire and intention to enter the healthcare profession; prior participation in extracurricular activities and some healthcare experiences are expected.
Students Must:
- Maintain confidentiality of patients and the physician’s practice.
- Adhere to the pre-arranged schedule and not disrupt the preceptor’s routine.
- Maintain a clear distance while observing to allow preceptors to provide patient care.
- Present a professional demeanor at all times.
- Ask questions when appropriate.
- Take notes of observations, questions, and discussions.
- Submit a completed Preceptorship Student Evaluation Form within 30 days of completing the preceptorship.
- If possible, bring back 2 to 3 personal digital photos with the preceptor that can be used for publicity.
Expenses
The 黑料社区 is responsible for all of the expenses associated with the preceptorship, including travel, housing, and meals. As a participant, the 黑料社区 should not assume that the preceptor will provide housing or assist in making housing arrangements, though this is an option!
Termination of Preceptorship
The physician may terminate a preceptorship experience in progress for any appropriate reason, including unprofessional behavior on the part of the 黑料社区 or a sudden, unanticipated change in the physician's schedule which precludes completion of the preceptorship.
