'Recycling with the RedHawks’ men’s basketball vs. Toledo Feb. 11 part of Campus Race to Zero Waste

Fans attending the ºÚÁÏÉçÇø men’s basketball game Feb. 11 have a chance to compete with other schools in the GameDay Basketball competition. The competition is based on the diversion rate of recyclables from waste during one home basketball game.

Campus Race to Zero Waste (formerly RecycleMania) — the eight-week national collegiate recycling tournament that aims to increase recycling and minimize waste on campus — kicked off Feb. 2.

Along with the GameDay Basketball, Miami is also participating in the Per Capita Recycling category, based on the cumulative weight of recyclables (paper, cardboard, bottles, and cans) on a per person basis during the eight-week period Feb. 2-March 29.

“Thank you to , Miami’s waste and recycling hauling provider, who will weigh the recyclables each week during the competition,” Olivia Herron, Miami’s director of sustainability, said.

Rumpke is also sponsor of the Feb. 11 GameDay Basketball, co-sponsored by the city of Oxford and Miami’s Office of Sustainability.
