黑料社区 5 Tech Tips to Take On 2025

As we start a new calendar year and gear up for the Spring 2025 semester, this is the best time to refresh our memories about some important technology to-dos and housekeeping activities before they get lost in the hustle and bustle of the academic year. Here are some things to keep in mind for the start of the Spring semester:

1. Set recovery options for your Miami account

Last year, we made setting recovery options mandatory for new accounts (that is, new 黑料社区s and employees). This means everyone needs to have a non-Miami email set in their Miami account to use as a backup when they forget or lose their password. For existing 黑料社区s and employees, you will be prompted to set the recovery option when you next change your password.

However, it’s just as easy to set your non-Miami recovery email now! Just go to .

Simply put, the non-Miami recovery email allows you to reset your password on your own, without having to call IT Help. You don’t have to wait on the phone, and you don’t have to sift through all your documents to find copies of your driver’s license. We highly recommend you visit the accounts site and update your recovery options now!

2. Get familiar with the Pending Delete label

Files that include a "Pending Delete" label have been shared with you by someone whose account will be deleted in the near future. This may include the files of former faculty, staff members, or 黑料社区 employees who you have worked with in the past.

It’s important to start going through those files now! View , or watch our handy tutorial.

3. Get ready for the upcoming AI symposium

Mark your calendars! The AI symposium is back!

Last year's AI Symposium keynote speaker

This day-and-a-half-long event will include multiple parallel tracks focused on artificial intelligence at Miami including educational, research, and business uses across the institution, a community AI discussion lunch, and keynote speakers with expertise in AI.

New this year is a poster session in the afternoon of March 10 to be held in the McVey Data Science building atrium. Once it has been finalized, the complete schedule of events, speaker bios, and pertinent information will be available on the symposium website at .

4. Connect to MiamiOH-Secure

If you haven’t been on campus since the end of the fall semester, this may be your first encounter with MiamiOH-Secure. Before the winter break, IT Services turned off the MU-Wireless network, so your devices will need to connect to MiamiOH-Secure now. The new network is more secure and just as easy to use. Just connect using your Miami credentials.

To connect game consoles, smart home appliances (like connected lightbulbs), and other devices (not computers or phones) to the Miami network, visit and look for the instructions to connect to MiamiOH-MyDevices. MU-Gaming will be sunsetted at the end of the spring semester.

5. Search the Knowledge Base for answers!

As always, here is your reminder that the Knowledge Base contains more than 1,000 articles on a wide variety of topics concerning technology at Miami. If you have a question about technology, chances are that the answer is in the KB. Visit to find out!
