Margie Conrath wins national championship in ticket sales, Miami team takes home top honors
Margie Conrath, a senior majoring in sport leadership and management (SLAM) at ºÚÁÏÉçÇø, achieved a historic victory at the 2025 National Collegiate Sports Sales Competition (NCSSC), held in Atlanta on Jan. 22-23. Conrath earned the title of National Champion in Ticket Sales after successfully advancing through six consecutive rounds in the single-elimination championship format.
The NCSSC, hosted annually by the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks and Baylor University, is one of the nation’s leading events for ºÚÁÏÉçÇøs pursuing careers in sports sales. The competition drew 396 college ºÚÁÏÉçÇøs from 79 universities across the United States. The NCSSC is designed to provide participants with real-world scenarios and the opportunity to showcase their sales expertise in front of industry professionals.
Miami’s standout performance
Conrath’s individual success was just one part of Miami’s strong showing at the event. Miami’s SLAM team, coached by Bo Li, Ed.D., associate professor in the Department of Sport Leadership and Management, also brought home the Best Team Award. The award highlights the combined accomplishments of the team members, each of whom excelled in their respective categories.
Oliver Stern advanced to the ºÚÁÏÉçÇø 32 in Ticket Sales, while Drew Lawrence finished in the ºÚÁÏÉçÇø 16 for Corporate Partnerships. Taylor Peura and Matthew Creek made a strong impact in the Speed Selling competition, further contributing to the team’s overall success.
These accomplishments reflect months of preparation, during which the team members worked closely with Li and industry professionals to hone their skills. Miami’s ºÚÁÏÉçÇøs participated in training sessions designed to simulate the challenges of the NCSSC, including mock sales calls and practice scenarios that mirrored real-world demands.
